Whilst the rules are more relaxed for small claims, there are nevertheless rules which you must follow.

You should also bear in mind that, whilst your case should be allocated to the small claims court, it will strictly speaking not be a small claim until it has been allocated as such by the court. (see the Small Claims Timeline as to when allocation takes place). And the court has an inherent jurisdiction to allocate a case outside the small claims court even, for example, if the value is less than £10,000 (see allocation outside the small claims court).
