A small claim is usually anything up to £10,000.

However, there are some carve outs:

If your claim relates to personal injury, it can only be allocated to the small claims track if the value of the claim is not more than £1,000. However, for Road Traffic Accidents (also considered a personal injury claim), the claim can now be up to £5,000.

If your claim relates to your status as a tenant, and you are claiming against your landlord for repairs or work done to the premises, the value of the claim cannot be more than £1,000.

You should check that you are eligible to lodge a claim with the small claims court.

In some cases, even if the claim is bigger than £10,000 the court may still allocate it to the small claims track.
